Before I take an opportunity to reveal a little about our future plans for Telix and the online world, I feel the need to answer what was probably the single most-asked question about our last newsletter: Yes, that was really me (in 1987, anyway). It was the last "professional" picture I ever had taken, and we used it for the header of this column in the last issue. We've updated the picture for this issue with one that shows what I do during my time off. Yes, that's still me, in the middle.
The Chinese proverb blesses us with the prediction "may you live in interesting times" and that is certainly true today. The unbelievable explosion of the Internet, even before Warp and Windows 95 added direct TCP/IP connectivity to our desktops, is changing the way we communicate.
Take this newsletter, for example. It is also available on the world wide web at http://www.telix.com/newslett.html, for those of you surfing. Online help files for inline products are moving away from your disk, and onto the Web, where they can be updated as needed, on the fly, and without having to ship update disks. The ways in which we communicate are blurring the distinctions between fax and Email, modems and direct connects, BBS's and global inter-connectivity all are merging into one.
We'll be there to help you sort it all out, to give you the freedom to communicate to all manner of systems without knowing or caring how or even what type of systems you're talking to. Fax, Internet, Web publishing, Email, connectivity - all are required to give you that freedom, and Telix is required to give you those features.
In the coming months, that's exactly what you'll see in Telix for Windows. TFW will become your one-stop connectivity tool, for surfing the 'Net, for spinning or navigating the world wide web, or for interfacing to the fax capabilities that are already built into your copy of Windows for Workgroups or Windows 95 - all interchangeably (forward that received fax to an Email workgroup, send that text MAPI network Email message out via merge mail fax to all of your remote department heads). That's the Freedom to Communicate, and that's our new slogan and commitment to you - to give you the freedom to do all of that and more from one connectivity tool called Telix for Windows. Stay tuned...

As we move forward with our ambitious goals to expand and blend together the way in which Telix, the Internet, and our online service communicate, we've made some improvements and upgraded most of the hardware on the BBS to better serve you. (A related store about Internet connectivity options appears on page 4.)
As the volume of data transmitted across any network increases, each machine on the network has to compete for space on the network wires with other machines. When these wires are limited to slow Ethernet speeds, this can cause minor delays in getting data. Our new hardware eliminates the network delays by eliminating the Ethernet wires!
Our new BBS Server Cabinet (photo) does this by placing each node's PC right on the server bus. Now each node, a 486-based PC slave, can communicate with the server at bus speeds that far exceed the Ethernet wire speed.
In addition, we've upgraded the hard drives to four Micropolis 9 GB drives in a hardware RAID/5 system, giving us a total space of nearly 27 GB of VERY FAST, redundantly backed up storage, and upgraded all modems to US Robotics v.Everything modems. Additional lines have been added to alleviate any chance of busy signals. It is our goal that you never hear a busy signal when calling deltaComm Online.
Even though these changes reduce you connect time by increasing network speed, we've also added several alternate methods of connecting to deltaComm Online that are less expensive than even the most competitive long distance calling circles or discount plans.
Beyond Internet's Telnet abilities CRIS' BBS Direct allows you unlimited connect time to our BBS and 40 other popular systems such as Aquila, Software Creations, ExecPC, Channel 1, and more, for a flat rate of $30 per month! If you spend more than 10 hours per month online on any of the BBS Direct systems, this is the bargain of the century. Order your BBS Direct account OVER HERE.
For those that download many files, a tape service is now available, where we'll send you up to 120 megs per tape for only $30 per tape (available to BBS subscribers only).
For details about the automatic tape service or BBS Direct; send E-mail to: bbs-info@telix.com; call Voice: 800-859-8000 or
