deltaComm Development, Inc. launches Internet Service Provider

Cary, NC, July 1, 1996 -- deltaComm Development, Inc. today announced the introduction of deltaComm Online, a full-service Internet Service provider for callers in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area. The new online service provides Triangle callers with full access to the all popular features of the Internet, including access to the World Wide Web, through their access point in Morrisville.

"Triangle netizens have been asking for reliable Internet access for a long time, and now they finally have it," said Jeffrey L. Woods, President and CEO of deltaComm. "deltaComm Online provides Internet users with the fast, reliable, and available access they've craved for so long." Woods stated that deltaComm will be committed to ready access without busy signals and without oversaturating or overselling access, problems he claimed were common at many providers.

"Our access to the Internet is over a T1 cable, which is the equivalent of 54 high-speed modems running at 28,800 bps," Woods, stated, "and such a link will comfortably support about 150 concurrent users. Any more than that, and performance noticeably drags. Many ISP's also sell too many accounts for too few dialup lines. Some providers have been known to try to sell 20 accounts or more for every modem they have available, and that causes customers to have to fight busy signals to get online. Therefore, we are committed to offering service to no more than ten users per modem, one of the lowest user to modem ratios in the industry, and to never allow the average wait for a line during prime time hours to exceed two minutes. We will add more lines rather than have our customers get busy signals, and if that means adding more bandwidth and modems to keep everyone's access snappy, so be it."

Access packages for deltaComm Online will vary in price depending on the needs of the user. Doug Burr, System Administrator and Senior Manager for deltaComm Online explains, "Some providers offer one level of access, say, $20 per month for unlimited access. While that is fine for some netizens, not all users are alike; each user has different needs, so we've designed a variety of packages that fit the varying needs of different kinds of users. We have low-cost packages for the infrequent user for as little as $5 per month, and unlimited access packages for the Cyberspace Junkie for $24.95 per month including web page space."

deltaComm Online offers more than other ISP's, though, including access to well-organized shareware and public domain software archives, which are updated with as many as two hundred new additions per day, and access to a wide variety of multi-user real-time games. The signup kit includes a copy of deltaComm's award-winning serial communications package, Telix for Windows, and either Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer for web access.
